 Catalyst 6500 Implementation Course Description

This five-day instructor led course provides the knowledge and skills needed to design data center solutions using key architectural features of the Catalyst 6500 Series Switch.

Beginning with an overview of the Catalyst 6500 supervisor engines, line cards, and services modules, students will learn how to set up a highly available network from an out-of-the-box state. Students will then learn about the significant Layer 2 and Layer 3 enhancements that Cisco introduced with the Supervisor Engine 720, including VLAN enhancements, spanning tree enhancements, key security features for denial-of-service (DoS) attack protection, and fault management tools. Lastly, a brief overview of campus and data center network design is provided.

Prerequisites

To fully benefit from this course, it is recommended that you have the following prerequisite skills and knowledge:

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Certification

Who Should Attend

This course is intended for the following audience:

  • Network Designers
  • Network Administrators
  • Network Engineers
  • Network Managers

Course Objectives

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  • Given a design, identify the various components associated with the Enterprise Composite Model so that the design meets customer requirements
  • Given a network environment, identify the components of the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switch platform that apply to that environment
  • Given a Catalyst 6500 Switch installation, complete initial configuration of the Catalyst 6500 Series Switch
  • Given a customer’s requirements for redundancy, identify the redundancy features required to meet customer needs
  • Given a network design, identify which Layer 2 enhancements should be used to meet the design requirements
  • Given a customer’s requirement for managing traffic, identify which features to use to satisfy the requirements
  • Given a network design document, identify the Catalyst 6500 components, features, and functions that should be included in the network design to meet the specified design goals
